I am a non-native English speaker. Can I still take a TEFL course?

The short answer is yes. Our courses are straightforward and digestible, and we have helped many non-native English speakers get TEFL qualified over the years.

Some people may want to get qualified to teach English in their home country, and some will want to travel the world and teach English abroad. In fact, as somebody who has learnt English first-hand, you can actually bring a unique and insightful knowledge to the process of teaching.

From your own time learning English, you will have a greater understanding of how your students feel, what challenges face them and what works in the classroom. Your English proficiency is bound to be really encouraging for your students – a great example for them to aim for. Additionally, cultural misunderstandings and difficulties with pronunciation can be overcome more readily by a teacher with a more open perspective.

Don’t be put off by the fact you’re a non-native English speaker; there are still plenty of roles out there for you. It’s a good idea to get your TEFL qualification like any other aspiring TEFL teacher to demonstrate your teaching proficiency to prospective employers – bear in mind that without this certificate, you may encounter resistance and will definitely need to be able to demonstrate a very high level of English fluency.
